In its 14th year, The Learning Project's Teacher Training Internship Program provides a rich opportunity for seven beginning teachers to train directly with experienced mentor teachers and to develop their own teaching skills by working daily in the classroom.  Interns have two different classroom placements over the course of the year and they are considered an integral art of the classroom team and of the school. Interns are given significant, independent responsibility, as well as substantial guidance and support.  There is a carefully outlined "progression" of responsibilities each Intern is expected to fulfill during each placement, culminating in a take-over week where Interns switch places with the Classroom Head.  Interns meet weekly with their mentor teachers and also as a cohort in seminar with the Coordinator of Interns to learn about teaching techniques and to discuss their classroom experience. 

Procedures for Application
We are now accepting applications for the 2010-2011 school year. There is no deadline for applying for the Internship Program; positions are filled on a “rolling basis” with interviews beginning in the winter and continuing through the spring and, sometimes, even into the summer. Please consider coming to one of our monthly Intern Open Houses when submitting application materials.

In recent years, many of our Interns have entered into the Program directly after college and with an interest in exploring teaching as a career. Others have come after several years in different professions. Still others have joined while doing work on a M.Ed. degree, and many have used their placement to meet student teaching requirements.

Compensation
Interns receive a medical benefit (90%) plus a $19,000 yearly stipend, paid monthly from September to June.  A second year in the program—as an Associate Teacher—is available by invitation for those who qualify. The stipend for the second year is $22,000.
